How To Work From Home During The Pandemic
The coronavirus pandemic has impacted our daily lives in so many ways. Whether you’re working or studying, we all find ourselves either locked down, in quarantine. Having to work from home can be a challenge, so we need to make sure we’re taking care of ourselves first and foremost.
It can be all too easy to burnout during the coronavirus pandemic. The boundaries between work and life blur, and it can leave us feeling depleted, fatigued, and depressed. In short, we begin to suffer from “work from home burnout.”
How to avoid coronavirus work from home burnout
Staying inside for long periods of time, having mountains of work to-do and having little contact with support networks puts us up for burnout. Especially as a writer and creative, we’re so obsessed with doing our best work that we forget to take care of ourselves.
We have to start focusing on ways to fill ourselves up. Working from home during coronavirus doesn’t have to be anxiety-inducing. We can make conscious choices to make working from home easier on our physical and mental health.
Don’t allow yourself to suffer any longer from work from home burnout! I’ve been trying some new work from home tips that have really helped me, so maybe they will help you too.
Work from home tips
Breathe Deeply
Breathing deeply is in almost every ancient medical science, whether that‘s from India, China or the shamans in Siberia. Culturally, we have forgotten how important breathing deeply and fully is.
Practice this breathing technique by taking long deep breaths in and out whenever you feel stressed. It’s a good idea to walk away from your desk to do this so your mind can go into a more rested mode.
Try deep breathing when you feel overwhelmed. Working from home during the pandemic may be hard, but we can find a way through it.
Notice your emotions without judgement
If a bad mood starts to hit, feel your feet on the floor and be in your body, then focus on the right here right now. Grounding stops your mind from spiralling to the past and future and problems, and instead focus all your energy on what‘s actually happening in this moment.
When you feel your emotions coming up, try and observe them. Try not to spiral into them and instead remind yourself that you are in the present moment. This helps get you out of catastrophising or creating more problems in your mind.
Grounding and observing your emotions will help you stay focused and alert while working from home, reducing the risk of burnout.
Move your body
Apart from helping you to be strong and able in your everyday life, regular movement actually helps the body to move energy. According to yoga, movement creates alignment in the mind, body and soul — shifting energy from all around you and clearing blockages.
Think about it like clearing a blocked pipe. Once the pipe is clear, the energy can move seamlessly. I recommend yoga since it’s gentle and you can choose whether you want to do more of a workout or take it easy.
Yoga breaks throughout the day is one work from home tip that will create a sense of ease. Even if it’s just a few stretches it’s still going to benefit you.
Eat and drink healthy
What we choose to nourish our body with is so important. Our cells respond to what we eat and our mind even responds to what we eat; so choosing food that supports us is crucial. Have your pantry stocked with healthy food to make working from home easier.
I want to share with you a recipe that I shared recently on Instagram that might also help you feel your best. It‘s especially for boosting the immune system and helping with stress levels.
N.B. This recipe is not intended to be a remedy or cure for coronavirus. It is simply to support your body and mind in these times of uncertainty.
How are you dealing with the coronavirus situation so far? Covid is one of the defining challenges of this new decade so far, but we will get through it eventually.
I came across the story of Rembrandt‘s messy love life and was so captivated by it I turned it into a short story.
